Cantilever Racks

Long-Load & Bulky-Item Storage

Designed for storing long, bulky, or irregularly shaped items such as lumber, piping, tubing, and metal extrusions. The open-arm design provides access without front columns obstructing the loading area. Dimensions, arm spacing, and load capacities are selected around the materials and facility.

  • Load capacities selected for the proposed application
  • Center-column design with open-front access to long materials
  • Adjustable vertical arm spacing (every 3 inches)
  • Fully customizable configurations
  • No front columns to interfere with loading/unloading
  • Ideal for lumber, piping, tubing, and metal extrusions

Cantilever racking for long and bulky materials

Long loads do not always fit efficiently into conventional pallet rack bays. Cantilever racks use arms extending from upright columns to support materials such as lumber, pipe, tubing, and metal extrusions. With no front columns in the loading area, the design provides access along the length of the stored material. The right arrangement depends on load length, weight, support requirements, and how materials enter and leave the storage area.

Match the rack to the materials

Describe the full range of material lengths and weights, including bundled and individual loads. A rack intended for short, light tubing may need a different configuration from one storing heavy, long bundles. Share the largest and heaviest expected loads rather than relying only on an average product size.

Arm spacing and usable storage

Adjustable arms allow storage levels to be arranged around your product mix. Vertical spacing, arm length, and the spacing between supports should be reviewed together. Available floor space and clear height determine the practical layout; cantilever storage is configurable, but its dimensions and capacities are not unlimited.

Plan loading access

Open-front access is helpful for long materials, but handling equipment still needs room to approach and move loads. Include loading direction, forklift requirements, and nearby work areas in the layout review. For facilities storing both palletized goods and long materials, a combination of pallet and cantilever racking may be worth discussing.

Prepare for a cantilever rack design

  • Material types and the shortest and longest loads
  • Maximum load weights and bundle dimensions
  • Storage-level and access requirements
  • Facility layout, available clear height, and handling equipment
  • Photos of the current storage area, if available

Frequently asked questions

What products are suited to cantilever racking?

Common applications include lumber, piping, tubing, and metal extrusions. The open-arm design is intended for long, bulky, or irregularly shaped materials. Your specific loads and support requirements should be reviewed before selecting a configuration.

Is cantilever rack the same as pallet rack?

No. Cantilever rack supports materials on projecting arms without front columns. Selective pallet rack uses upright frames and beams for palletized storage. Choose based on the form of the stored goods and how operators need to access them.

Can the layout be customized?

Pro Space Racking offers customizable cantilever configurations and adjustable arm spacing. Discuss your load sizes, weights, and facility constraints with the design team so the proposed rack arrangement reflects your application.
